Here at Bob Willmott Fire Logs we try to source our timber as locally as possible. A vast amount of our hardwood is sourced from a local estate approximately 20 miles away. The remaining timber is sourced from woodland mainly within the Cornwall and Devon area. Occasionally wood is sourced outside of these areas for specific customer requirements.
Hardwood
Hardwood is generally more durable and dense, this is a result of a slower growing process. Due to the density of the wood it creates a hot, long lasting fire with little smoke and sparks. Hardwood comes from a broad-leaved tree’s which loses its leaves in the winter.
Softwood
Softwood comes from coniferous trees, these trees are green all year, needle-leaved or cone bearing tree’s. Softwood grows much faster than hardwood resulting in a much lighter, less dense piece of wood. Although this is not always the case as some softwoods will appear heavier than hardwood depending on their growing environment.
Seasoned Wood
Seasoned logs are air dried to a moisture content of 20 to 25%. Using our processing equipment, the logs can be split from 9 to 24 inches into our storage crates and then stored in our ventilated shed for further seasoning other sizes are available on special request. Our seasoned wood is available all year round.
Kiln Dried Wood
Kiln dried wood provides an ultimate clean burn with maximal heat output. The kiln drying process involves the kiln removing water from the wood and bringing the moisture content down to 20% or less. As a result, the logs are ready for immediate use. Kiln dried logs produce a long, hot, natural flame, perfect for all types of fires.
Kindling Wood
Kindling wood is made up of small neatly cut pieces of soft wood. Each bag approximately weight between 3-4 kilograms. Our kindling wood is sourced from a local supplier. Check out are special kindling bundles available for delivery with any of our products
TOP TIP: Place our recommended firelighters amongst 8-10 pieces of kindling wood, with 2 smaller logs on top of the kindling.
Hardwood & Softwood Nets
We supply kiln dried hardwood & seasoned soft wood nets. The logs are tightly packed containing an average of 10-12 logs split to 9 inches in length, this is to ensure they accommodate smaller wood burning stoves. Nets are advised for those customers who have limited storage/space or who do not regularly burn wood.
